Commemorate the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, and join with others around the state to show the NC legislators that many of their constituents are supporter of choice.

Our sister organization, NC National Organization for Women, has an annual project to compile a statewide list of supporters of choice. This commemorates the anniversary of Roe v. Wade and is a major fundraiser for them. It provides support for their operations including paying for a lobbyist in the NC General Assembly. We benefit indirectly from this since many of their issues overlap with ours.

The list of names is printed in The Independent and copies of the ad are distributed to every member of the General Assembly. It is important to get names from each senate/house district, so please do help NC NOW get as many signatures as possible by distributing the attached form. You’ll find more details on the form

Watch a short video to learn about this new program.

The Association has a new program for students at institutions that are college/university partners of AAUW. [See list of partner institutions in NC.]

Students who have not yet received a bachelor’s degree can become student affiliates of AAUW for free! Note that they can add AAUW NC membership to that by signing up with the new Tar Heel Branch since AAUW NC does not charge any fees for students and that branch has $0 “local” dues.

For more on the e-student affiliate program, see www.aauw.org (where you’ll find other benefits for college/university partners) or watch this short video (thanks to AAUW Indiana!):

You need to a flashplayer enabled browser to view this YouTube video

If there’s an institution of higher education in your community that’s not already a partner, be sure they understand all the benefits! Please contact Sheila Bassoppo-Moyo (AAUW NC Membership VP) or Elmira Mangum (AAUW NC College/University Liason and UNC Chapel Hill C/U representative) if you have questions.
The new AAUW program that offers a discount for online shopping with Barnes and Noble provides quick access to order the AAUW Juvenile Literature Award winning books.

The new AAUW Barnes and Noble discount program has an exciting link to the AAUW Juvenile Literature Awards that have been presented by AAUW of North Carolina for more than fifty years. To take advantage of the discount (normally 5%, but 10% through December 19), start shopping at bn.com/aauw then look on the left for the link to “AAUW Award Winners” which will take you to a list of the recent Juvenile Literature Award books. In just a few clicks you can add your selections to your “shopping cart” and be ready to purchase them online with the discount.

Finish the rest of your book shopping and go to the checkout to take advantage of this great discount.

Note: If you have a Barnes and Noble membership card ($25/year for 10% discount online and at the stores), you can use that as well when you check out. Please don’t, however, confuse the Barnes and Noble mention of “membership” with your AAUW membership - that’s a completely separate system.
